Dear patients.

We are happy to say that we are now open and operating under our full schedule.

COVID-19 has been a very difficult time for all of us. Many of you have been forced to wait for dental care, and we deeply appreciate your understanding while we kept our office closed to help control the spread of the coronavirus.

Your health and well-being continue to be our highest priority, and we opened with carefully planned and revised office procedures to greatly minimize the risk of infection for our patients and our team members. Our own families are also patients here, so you can be assured that we’ll be taking care of you just as well as we’ll be taking care of them.

For your peace of mind, the measures we are taking to provide a safe dental treatment experience include, but are not limited to, the following:

Upon Your Arrival at the Office

●     Patients will be screened BEFORE treatment and temperatures will be checked. Any patients showing signs of a fever or other symptoms of illness will be asked to reschedule their appointment.

●     ONLY patients will be allowed entry into the office. Parents and other family members will be asked to wait outside whenever possible.

●     Patients are asked to wait in their cars or outside the office until their scheduled appointment time.

●     The waiting area chairs will be spaced apart to allow for 6 feet of distancing.

●     We will ask that you continue to practice social distancing measures in common areas of the office, including the front desk.

●     The front door and the door between the waiting area and operatories will be propped open all day.

●     There will be no physical contact with patients with the exception of treatment.

During Treatment

●     All rooms will be COMPLETELY sterilized before each patient is seated, and public areas, including restrooms, will be cleaned and sterilized frequently throughout the day.

●     All operatories have high-volume air filtration and we have installed a whole office purification system. This system will kill the Covid virus along with other contaminates

●     Our team will STRICTLY follow guidelines set forth by the CDC, OSHA, and ADA in regards to personal protective equipment (PPE) and office sterilization.

●     During patient care, goggles or face shields will be worn by everyone and changed between patients.

●     All surfaces that came in contact with the patient will be wiped with disinfectant including the patient chair.

Checking Out After Your Appointment

●    We will be requesting prepayments when we know the amount of payment which will expidite your visit

●     All efforts will be made to complete scheduling in the back of the office so you can leave without stopping at the front desk

We are proceeding with an abundance of caution, but we want you to feel as confident as we do that any visit you make to our office will be a safe one.

We also realize that many of you have been impacted financially during this outbreak, and we have solutions to keep dental care affordable for you and your family.

To discuss these payment options, schedule an appointment, or ask us any questions you may have about your next visit, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 757-473-8482

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Attention Athletes: Are You a Candidate for a Custom Mouth Guard? By drfrey on September 05, 2015

A custom mouth guardWhether you are an athlete, or you have a son or daughter who is getting involved in sports, you have probably arrived at this blog post because you are searching for information about mouth guards. What might surprise you, however, is that this blog belongs to The Smile Center, one of the premier cosmetic and restorative dentistry practices on the Eastern Seaboard. You might expect to find mouth guards on the counters of your local drug store, or at Dick’s Sporting Goods - but at your local dentist’s office?

If you stop to think about it, though, who knows the inside of the human mouth better than a dentist? And the point of a mouth guard is to protect the teeth, gums, and other delicate oral structures from damage, right? Drs. Scott Parr and Tara Frey carefully evaluate the mouths of mouth guard candidates at their Virginia Beach practice to ensure that they are in good oral health. They then take molds of their teeth so that custom-made mouth guards can be crafted from the finest materials to fit snugly yet comfortably in their mouths.

If you or someone you love needs a mouth guard, why settle for less than the best? Visit The Smile Center today and find out why a custom mouth guard is the safest, most cost-effective choice for protecting your teeth and gums, whatever your sport.

Why should you get a custom mouth guard?

You may be asking yourself, “Why should I get a custom mouth guard? Won’t a boil-to-fit mouth guard work just as well and fit my mouth just fine?”

Not all mouth guards are created equal. As you might imagine, professional athletes do not pop down to their local drug stores and buy mouth guards off the shelves, and not simply because they can afford the extra expense of custom mouth guards. Modern pressure laminated custom mouth guards are superior in every possible way to their store-bought counterparts. When you invest in a custom mouth guard from The Smile Center, you will receive a mouth guard that is:

  • Created specifically to fit your mouth: Your mouth guard will be customized to protect every tooth in your mouth, including your back teeth, which boil-to-fit mouth guards are often stretched too thin to protect properly. It will be trimmed so that it does not harm your gum tissues or interfere with your mouth muscles.
  • Cost-effective: You can count on your mouth guard to last for at least two solid years with proper maintenance. Whether you box, play football, play hockey, play basketball, or all of the above and more, you won’t have to worry about replacing your mouth guard for at least two years. With an off-the-shelf mouth guard, you’ll be lucky if it lasts one season.
  • Easy to care for: Just rinse it before and after each use, and clean it in cold, soapy water. When not using it, store it in a well-ventilated container, and don’t leave it out in the sun.  That’s it.
