If you have crooked teeth, you may keep your mouth closed when taking a picture, or cover your mouth when speaking. Thanks to modern dentistry, this doesn’t have to be the case. Advances in dental technology have made smile makeovers for crooked teeth as safe, effective, and accessible as they have ever been.

Dr. Scott Parr and Dr. Tara Frey of The Smile Center in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk, VA, have been performing comprehensive smile makeovers since 1989. Whether you have crooked, stained, cracked, chipped, or missing teeth, our dentists can tailor a smile makeover to your unique needs.

To correct crooked teeth, we offer the following options:

Veneers

Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are attached to the front of teeth. Though commonly used to cover minor chips and deep dental stains, veneers can also correct minor instances of misalignment. If you have just a few teeth that are “off” but don’t affect your oral health, veneers could be the best option for you!

Lumineers

Lumineers® are another option for treating slightly crooked teeth available at our Virginia Beach practice. Lumineers are similar to traditional veneers, but they are much thinner. These veneers require little to no enamel to be removed from the tooth’s surface, which may be even more beneficial for patients who desire to correct the appearance of a few crooked teeth.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding, or composite bonding, consists of a tooth-colored compound applied to the surface of a tooth. When strategically placed, dental bonding can alter the appearance of minorly crooked teeth. Again, this treatment only makes it appear that the teeth are straight, it doesn’t actually straighten them.

Invisalign

Moderate cases of dental misalignment can be corrected with Invisalign® clear aligners. This modern orthodontic option is popular because of its comfort, convenience, and discreet appearance. In order for Invisalign treatment to be effective, patients must commit to wearing their aligner for at least 22 hours per day. Each tray places slight pressure on the teeth to move them into their correct positions over a period of up to 18 months. To keep the teeth moving, patients must replace their trays with new ones every two weeks.

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces consist of a system of brackets, bands, and wires that shift teeth into the correct position over time. While not as popular or desirable as Invisalign, traditional braces may be more effective for patients with severe alignment issues.

If the thought of metal braces makes you cringe, don’t worry! Modern braces are much more discreet than they used to be. Today’s brackets and wires are smaller and thinner, so they are less noticeable.
